10/15-10/21 Practice

  1. NECESSARY MATERIALS

    1. Suzuki Violin Book 1

      • PLEASE BRING THIS TO THE NEXT CLASS

    2. MUSIC STAND for standing practice at home.

      • You do not need to bring this stand to class.

    3. Small Binder with clear sleeves for loose sheet music

Please label your violinist’s violin CASE with their name (I recommend using painters tape or something similar). Please write your violinist’s name in their book. Sometimes things get left behind and this helps me find the right owner.

We had an awesome class on 10/14! I have some excellent practicers in the room. We are getting a lot more confident with our rights and lefts. Practice is going to be almost identical to last week, but this doesn’t mean improvement isn’t happening. A really strong set up and technique is essential for feeling confident and to start playing songs.

Each week I "shout out" one or more students in each class! This week I would like to shout out: Thomas, I love how hard you practiced and it showed in class! You were a leader in rest position and getting into playing position. I love that the whole class could look to you if they were confused!

Violinists and families - this week it is so important that you begin the habit of practice for this year. Please take out your violin 4 times for practice between 10/14-10/21 for just 5-10 minutes every time. I want you  practicing practice! This will make practicing much easier later in the year and is a great life skill!

This week in violin we:

  1. Reviewed rest position

  2. Practiced playing position and walked all around Mitchell in playing position

  3. learned about up bows and down bows (page 17 in our Suzuki Book)

  4. SEE PIC BELOW! We practiced an early bow hold with a pencil and played a bow game (we passed around a tissue with our bows with our early bow hold - the quiet coyote one)

Practice:

  • 5-10 minutes a day (this week might be more of a 5 minute week)

  • Chose 1-2 of these things to do a a day

  1. Review the song “Dirty Doggy Scrub Scrub” you can do this without your violins, even in the car or on the bus or train!

  2. Have your violinist show you the things they learned in page 15 of the Suzuki Book

  3. Have your violinist show you the things they learned in page 16 of the Suzuki Book

  4. Have your violinist show you the things they learned in page 17 of the Suzuki Book (with a pencil ONLY right now)

  5. Watch and play along with your violins to this video on how to get into Rest Position

  6. Watch and play along with your violins to this video on how to get into Playing Position. What did Ms. Hannah not start teaching yet in this video from 4 years ago - your violinist will know!

  7. Have this playlist on REPEAT! Especially the first video. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5WJD9Cu1eMqGd72RYQBs5ySq8eA51rRh&si=YHuN96A2sowRBj9m
