10/7 - 10/14/27 Practice

Please label your violinist’s violin CASE with their name (I recommend using painters tape or something similar). Please write your violinist’s name in their book. Sometimes things get left behind and this helps me find the right owner.

Wednesday was our most challenging class yet. Getting into playing position is HARD. Practicing rights and lefts with your violinist will be a big help.

Each week I "shout out" one or more students in each class! This week I would like to shout out: Hildy - I love how you figured out how to strum your violin in rest position with your thumb. You are really strong at your lefts and rights and being my opposite when I am facing you.

Violin Safety Tips:

1. Always open the violin case with backpack straps on the ground

2. Put your violin away in the case when not in use

3. Walking feet with the violin in your hands

4. Violin face (the front with the bridge) is NEVER down. Back of the violin only on surfaces

5. Keep the violin away from extreme temperatures (think heating vents and furnaces, cold winter cars, hot summer cars)

Violinists and families - this week it is so important that you begin the habit of practice for this year. Please take out your violin 4 times for practice between 10/7-10/14 for just 5-10 minutes every time. I want you  practicing practice! This will make practicing much easier later in the year and is a great life skill!

This week in violin we:

  1. Practiced singing “Dirty Doggy Scrub Scrub”. We will be using this rhythm a lot in violin class

  2. Practiced Rest Position and taking a bow

  3. Practiced the parts of the violin and learned the parts of the bow

  4. Practiced pages 15 and 16 in our Suzuki Books

  5. Learned how to get into playing position (but we are FAR from being experts at it, it is deceptively hard)

Practice:

  • 5-10 minutes a day (this week might be more of a 5 minute week)

  • Close 1-2 of these things to do a a day

  1. Have your violinist teach you the song “Dirty Doggy Scrub Scrub” you can do this without your violins, even in the car or on the bus or train!

  2. Have your violinist show you the things they learned in page 15 of the Suzuki Book

  3. Have you violinist show you the things they learned in page 16 of the Suzuki Books

  4. Watch and play along with your violins to this video on how to get into Rest Position

  5. Watch and play along with your violins to this video on how to get into Playing Position. What did Ms. Hannah not start teaching yet in this video from 4 years ago - your violinist will know!

  6. Have this playlist on REPEAT! https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5WJD9Cu1eMqGd72RYQBs5ySq8eA51rRh&si=YHuN96A2sowRBj9m
