10/29-11/4 Practice

Please label your violinist’s violin CASE with their name (I recommend using painters tape or something similar). Please write your violinist’s name in their book. Sometimes things get left behind and this helps me find the right owner.

We had a fun Halloween class yesterday! We turned our two new songs “The Egg Song” and “The DAD Song” into halloween versions of the song. You can see what I mean in the video below.

Each week I "shout out" one or more students in each class! This week I would like to shout out: Jack - you are playing “The Egg Song” and “The DAD Song” so well! You are keeping a steady beat and are so studious about your plucking in playing position. Keep it up!

Violinists and families - this week it is so important that you begin the habit of practice for this year. Please take out your violin 4 times for practice between 10/29-11/4 for just 5-10 minutes every time. I want you  practicing practice! This will make practicing much easier later in the year and is a great life skill!

This week in violin we:

1. Reviewed rest/playing position

2. Reviewed “The Egg Song” which uses all of our open strings and plucking in rest position

3. We learned to pluck in playing position

4. We learned about “rests” “repeat signs” and “The DAD Song”

5. We practiced DAD Song and Egg Song in playing position

6. Practice our bow holds on pencils and on bows (page 17 in our Suzuki Book)

Practice:

• 5-10 minutes a day (this week might be more of a 5 minute week)

• Chose 1-2 of these things to do a a day

1. Review the song “Dirty Doggy Scrub Scrub” you can do this without your violins, even in the car or on the bus or train! “Dirty Doggie Scrub Scrub, Put Him in a tub tub, Rub a dub a dub dub, Dirty Doggie Scrub Scrub”

2. Watch and play along with your violins to this video on how to get into Playing Position. What did Ms. Hannah not start teaching yet in this video from 4 years ago - your violinist will know!

3. Have your violinist show you the things they learned in page 17 of the Suzuki Book (with a pencil and BOW right now). You can also watch this bow hold video!

4. Watch and play along with “The Egg Song” This video is in Rest position. Play it in Playing Position by yourself! How do we pluck in playing position?
