11/6-11/13

Hello Violinists!

We had so much fun today! Ms. Stella is such a wonderful addition to our class. We wrote our own songs today and performed them for each other!

Each week I "shout out" one or more students in each class! This week I would like to shout out: all of the performers and audience members. Everyone was so brave either performing for the class, asking me to perform their song, or performing their song for me privately. I am so proud.

Suzuki Violin Book 1

  1. Please bring this to every class

  2. MUSIC STAND for standing practice at home.

    • You do not need to bring this stand to class.

Violinists and families - this week it is so important that you begin the habit of practice for this year. Please take out your violin 4 times for practice between 11/6-11/13 for just 5-10 minutes every time. I want you  practicing practice! This will make practicing much easier later in the year and is a great life skill!

This week in violin we:

  1. Reviewed Rest position/playing position

  2. Reviewed EGG and DAD Song in Rest position and playing position

  3. talked about composers and compositions

  4. composed our own open string songs

  5. performed our own open string songs for the class

Practice:

  • You can access the sheet music I handed out HERE

  • 5-10 minutes a day (this week might be more of a 3-5 minute week)

  1. IF YOU DO NOTHING ELSE, PRACTICE YOUR LEFTS AND RIGHTS WITH SOMEONE IN YOUR HOUSE and REVIEW PLAYING POSITION

  2. Review this video on how to get into Rest Position and follow along with your violin

  3. Review PLAYING POSITION - we cannot move onto playing with the bow until the violinist is confident and strong at putting the violin high on the shoulder (see page 15 and 16 in the Suzuki Book)

  4. Watch and Play Along “The Egg Song” in rest position. How do we do this in Playing Position? Show someone in your house!

  5. Watch and practice “The Dad Song” in playing position and play it for a Dad in your life!

  6. Watch and practice your bow hold

  7. Practice tightening, rosin-ing, and loosening the bow

    • lefty loose-y, righty tighty

    • the bow should make a little “smile” and fit the tip of your pinky through it

    • the bow stick should never be straight or make a frown

    • we always rosin tightened bows

    • we always loosen the bow before it goes back in the case

    Happy Practicing!
